How much does having a bank account help the poor?
This study investigates the impact of receiving wages via bank accounts under India’s National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) on household spending, particularly on education. While bank accounts are often seen as a gateway to financial inclusion and increased savings, the analysis reveals that households paid through bank transfers do not significantly increase their education spending compared to those paid in cash.
