The impacts of digital financial services on women’s economic empowerment

This document explores the relationship between access to digital financial services and women’s economic empowerment. It examines how such access can expand women’s support networks, enable faster financial transfers during times of need, empower women to join the workforce or transition to more productive occupations, and generate other positive outcomes. The analysis draws on studies from various countries — including Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Uganda, Niger, Bangladesh, Kenya, Nigeria, and Tanzania — as well as broader development economics literature.
